The number 18 has long been considered a sacred number in Hinduism and yoga. Traditionally, malas, or garlands of beads for prayer, come as a string of 18 (or other number divisible by 9) beads, plus one for the “guru bead,” which is usually not counted. These 18 beads bracelet follow this same pattern to promote healing.

The lotus flower, from where Padmasambhava was born, is prized and honored among Buddhists. The pure, delicate flower arises from bogs and slowly develops a beautiful seed head from which these seeds are extracted. The dried seeds are then smoothed and sealed to make a lasting prayer bead mala. A lotus seed mala offers an opportunity for serenity because it provides a connection to the Buddha.
