Today, the Full Moon for the month of April occurs at a point in its orbit where it is nearest to Earth, appearing larger than average making it almost a “Supermoon.” It will be appearing on April 19th 2019 at 7:12 pm EST and will be peaking around midnight and, if you live in an area with clear skies, be sure to catch the splendor of this gorgeous April pink full moon tonight.
The name Pink Moon does not mean that the moon will actually turn all pink. “The April full moon is often called the Pink Moon, named after pink phlox flowers that are the first wild flowers to bloom in spring, according to Dr Emily Drabek-Maunder, astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich.
Other Northern Hemisphere names for April full moon are Egg Moon, Sprouting Grass Moon, or Easter Moon. According to The Old Farmer’s Almanac, these special names for moon were adapted from Native Americans and incorporated them into modern day calendars by settlers.
According to Vedic Astrology, this month’s full moon falls in a celestial area known as Chitra Nakshatra, or the “Diamond Star of Opportunity” and this full moon helps open doors to creativity and growth which have been dormant in you for a while. Vishwakarma (the celestial architect) is the ruling deity of Chitra Nakshatra. He is the one who is responsible for bringing out the inner beauty and creativity of a person.
Vishwakarma is often referred to as the ideal artist, since he carves out the creativity within humans, just like a good sculptor takes a block of stone and carves it into a beautiful statue. So if you are looking for a breakthrough in your creative process, today is the night to work it out and come up with a fresh perspective on things.
A tad of general advice – although a beautiful sight to behold, use extra caution on full moon nights, especially Supermoon nights. Since more than 70% of human body is made up of water, most humans do act up and do the craziest of things on a full moon night. Check with your local ER and police departments and you will come up with higher stats on crime in almost every city on a full moon day. Stay safe and make the max of this gorgeous full moon night! xoxo ~ @teamsivalya
